JioCinema, the official streaming platform for TATA IPL 2023, have introduced commentary in various regional languages. The Bhojpuri broadcast also features actor and BJP MLA Ravi Kishan. Viewers thus get a blend of cricket and Bhojpuri pop culture.
There’s a segment called as 'Kishan Ki Class', for example, where the actor gives his ingenious take on basic cricket terminology like ‘Stump Out’, ‘Clean Bowled’ and ‘Caught Behind’.
Surbhi Vaid, who is a sports presenter on JioCinema (Hindi), too had some assuring words towards Bhojpuri commentary. Bhojpuri aside, fans have the option of listening to commentary in several languages. They are English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Oriya, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. With such a wide range of local flavour added to the tournament feed, it is no surprise that TATA IPL 2023 is posting big numbers. Perhaps, the success of Bhojpuri commentary will pave the way for more languages to make their way into the streaming feed.
