Ireland Qualify For ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Washout against Germany guarantees passage to the summit event

A wet day in Edinburgh proved to be sunny for Ireland. While their 2024 ICC T20 World Cup qualifier against Germany was washed out, it was enough for them to book their ticket for the marquee tournament, to be held in the West Indies and the United States.

Ireland are on second spot in the Group. They take on Scotland, who have already qualified, on Friday. The rules are such that the top two teams in the European qualifiers progress to the main round.

Ireland have won four of the five matches they have played so far. If they beat Scotland, they can top the table.

Ireland captain Paul Stirling was overjoyed at the qualification, at the same time focused on the tasks ahead. They were keen to finish the table on top.

"We are delighted to have achieved our primary objective of qualifying for next year's T20 World Cup. We came to Scotland with a clear plan and style of play we wanted to implement, and I think we delivered on that front," Stirling said.

"So we'll celebrate job done this afternoon, but there is a trophy on the line tomorrow, and we are keen to continue that winning momentum going into the India T20 series next month," Stirling added.
