Lionel Messi Slaps Luis Suarez: Epic Scenes From Inter Miami Camp - Watch

Luis Suarez responded by calling his former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi an "idiot" during the Uruguayan great's Inter Miami initiation, during which the latter slapped the former as part of a common drill

Eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi welcomed his ex-Barcelona teammate to Miami with a slap on the head as part of a club tradition followed worldwide. Suarez, who last played for Gremio in Brazil, had joined Inter Miami on a free transfer weeks earlier, reuniting with Messi and his other former Barcelona teammates, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets. (More Football News)

Suarez, as is customary for new signings, ran through a barrage of slaps, delivered to him from either side by his new teammates, with Messi the last to land a blow. Upon 'escaping' the whack tunnel, the Uruguayan forward retorted with a snarky remark to Messi, albeit one that the Argentinian will, unquestionably, consume light-heartedly.

"Since when have you been throwing punches in the hallways, idiot?" said Suarez, translated from Spanish.

Now 37, Luis Suarez spent, perhaps, the most remarkable spell of his career dovetailing his close friend Lionel Messi at FC Barcelona, with Neymar Jr completing a sensational triumvirate. Together, 'MSN' - as they were colloquially known - won several titles, including the 2014-15 UEFA Champions League, which happens to be Barcelona's last such honour at the time of writing.

Born in Salto, Suarez came through the ranks of local giants Nacional before securing a transfer to Europe with Dutch outfit Groningen. From Groningen, he joined AFC Ajax and later, Liverpool, where he first burst into the collective consciousness of the footballing fraternity. His exploits in Liverpool earned him a move to FC Barcelona, where he spent the peak of his career.
