India slumped to their maiden loss in the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup 2022 after losing to hosts New Zealand by 62 runs at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Thursday. Opting to bowl first, India made a positive start by removing Suzie Bates early but knocks from Sophie Devine, Amelia Kerr and Amy Satterthwaite kept the hosts going. India pegged back into the match in last 10 overs taking five New Zealand wickets restricting the hosts to 260/9. In reply, Mithali Raj's girls were never in the chase. With the required rate is five-plus per over at the start, the Indians were three wickets down for 50 runs in 19.1 overs. The Ramesh Powar-coached side never took the extra risk as kept on losing wickets making it harder for Harmanpreet Kaur, who was a mere spectator at the other end. Harmanpreet went all guns blazing towards the end but the game was virtually over by then as India were all out for 198. Earlier, India opened thrashed Pakistan by 107 runs in their first match. Indian women had also lost the preceding ODI series against the White Ferns 4-1. Get highlights of IND vs NZ here.
