Vinesh Accuses WFI Chief Of Trying To End Her Olympic Dream

World Championships medallist Vinesh Phogat on Friday accused the Wrestling Federation of India president Sanjay Singh of trying to stop her from competing in the Olympic Qualifiers by creating logistical hurdles for her support staff, saying she is also fearful of being trapped in a doping case. The 29-year-old Phogat, who won 53kg bronze medals in the 2019 and 2022 World Championships besides a gold in the 2018 Asian Games (in 50kg), would be eyeing an Olympic quota in the 50kg category in the Asian qualifying tournament next week in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Emmaculate Anyango Achol, the world's second-fastest 10K woman runner, will headline the 16th edition of TCS World 10K Bengaluru, scheduled for Sunday. The World Athletics Gold Label Road Race is a USD 210,000 prize money event featuring some of the world's most accomplished road and track and field athletes. Indian boxing legend MC Mary Kom has stepped down as the chef-de-mission of the national contingent for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games 2024 citing personal reasons. Confirming the development, Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha has said that a replacement would be named after necessary consultations.

ACC Premier Cup: Nepal Bowling First Against Malaysia

The ACC Premier T20I Cup has kicked off today in Al Amerat, Oman. In the third match of the day, hot favourites Nepal are taking on Malaysia. Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel lost the toss and was asked to bowl first by Malaysia captain Virandeep Singh.

India continued their disappointing performance in the crucial tour Down Under, losing 1-3 against Australia to suffer their fourth successive defeat in the five-match men's hockey Test series, in Perth. Contrary to the final result, it was a much-improved performance from the Indians but the Kookaburras were simply too strong.

All the four goals in the match, which started 40 minutes late due to lightning, came from penalty corners.

Sinner Vs Tsitsipas at Monte Carlo Masters Semis

Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner overcame strong resistance from Holger Rune to reach the Monte Carlo Masters semi-finals for the second straight year and set up a meeting with two-time champion Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Rune saved two match points in the second-set tie-breaker before Sinner came out on top with a 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-3 win. The match was a repeat of last year's semi-final when Rune beat Sinner at the clay-court tournament. (AP)
