ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Musumeci will make his highly anticipated return next month against one of the top mixed martial artists on the planet.
On Friday, August 4, “Darth Rigatoni” will defend his coveted belt against strawweight MMA king Jarred Brooks in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 13: Allazov vs. Grigorian, which broadcasts live in U.S. primetime from the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Musumeci is arguably the best American-born Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner in history. He’s claimed five IBJJF World Titles as a black belt while developing a reputation as the greatest technical pound-for-pound BJJ competitor in the sport today.
That reputation has been on full display since the beginning of his ONE Championship tenure, as he submitted Japanese leglock legend Masakazu Imanari in his promotional debut back in April 2022.
The 27-year-old New Jersey native then made history five months later when he defeated longtime rival Cleber Sousa in a trilogy match to claim the inaugural ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Title.
Since that time, Musumeci has successfully defended his crown twice, beating sambo star Gantumur Bayanduuren via unanimous decision this past January and then submitting 2022 IBJJF World Champion Osamah Almarwai in May. That brought his career record to 61-5.
Now, Musumeci is scheduled to make his third ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Title defense, but it will come against an MMA fighter who poses a unique challenge.
Brooks has been absolutely dominant in his professional career, thanks in part to his all-around skill set, his immense cardio, and especially, his brilliant grappling expertise.
“The Monkey God” has showcased those dazzling skills since joining ONE, taking out #2-ranked strawweight MMA contender Bokang Masunyane, #3-ranked Hiroba Minowa, and Filipino knockout artist Lito Adiwang.
Last December, Brooks reached the pinnacle of his career when he routed Joshua Pacio to take the ONE Strawweight MMA World Title.
Now at ONE Fight Night 13, the American – a 2012 Indiana State Wrestling Champion – has a chance to become a two-sport king and prove that his grappling is truly the best of the best.
