Nathan Lyon Reveals Australian And English Players Had Heated Row Over Jonny Bairstow Stumping

The ongoing Ashes series between Australia and England is already setting up fireworks on and off the field. Apart from all the high-octane games on the field, there have been few controversial moments that have been talk of the town ever since. One of them being notably the dismissal of Jonny Bairstow by Aussie wicketkeeper Alex Carey during the second Ashes Test at Lord's. The incident happened during the day 4 of the second Test when Bairstow walked out of the crease thinking it was over after ducking to a Cameron Green bouncer. Carey saw Bairstow outside the crease and hit the ball onto the stumps.

The incident sent everyone into frenzy as fans and ex-cricketers from both sides expressed their point of view regarding the dismissal. As England questioned the 'spirit of cricket', Australians praised Carey's 'quick-thinking'.

However, Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has now revealed that players from both sides were involved in a heated altercation in the lunch room at Lord's.

"There were a few Australian guys and a few English guys in the lunchroom and I hobbled up on my crutches and stood in the middle of it and tried to calm things down a little bit." Lyon told the Willow Talk podcast.

"Jonny (Bairstow) had a few words here or there. That's all part of it, I'm all for it."

Lyon also went on to add that he personally had no issues about the way that Bairstow was dismissed. 

"I was in the change room and I just erupted. I was like 'how good. Suck eggs. That's out every day'," he said.

Lyon said he was taken aback by the behaviour of the MCC members in the Long Room. "The emotions in the room were quite remarkable," Lyon said.

"Everyone was gobsmacked but found it hilarious because you walk through that Long Room and you're more chance of getting sued than punched. So, you look at it like that and all these guys abusing you, and you're like 'what's going on here?'."

"It was quite funny in all respects."

The fourth Ashes Test gets underway in Manchester on Wednesday.
