Indian men’s hockey team dented their chances of finishing at the top of the FIH Pro League 2021-22 table with a shoot-out loss against the Netherlands in the first-leg tie in Rotterdam on Saturday. The home side put pressure from the word go and were rewarded with an early lead from Reyenga Tijmen. Down by a goal, India pressed hard and got an equaliser in the 21st minute, courtesy of a brilliant Dilpreet Singh angular shot betaing Dutch goalie Lars Blaak. Thereafter both teams fought hard, trying to find a foot in the game. While PR Sreejesh stood tall against all odds to save the fort, the Indians were also guilty of not converting all the PCs they earned during the match. The third quarter remained barren while the last 15 minutes proved to be most exciting among all. Netherlands took the lead again through Bijen Koen. At a time when it looked the hosts would take away full points after 60 minutes, Harmanpreet Singh spoiled the Dutch party with an equaliser with just two seconds left.
