Paris Olympics: Aman Sehrawat Beats Vladimir Egorov 10-0, Enters Men's 57kg Freestyle Wrestling Quarters

Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat delivered a dominant performance against Macedonia's Vladimir Egorov, advancing to the quarterfinals of the men's 57kg freestyle at the Paris Olympics 2024. Aman Sehrawat, who is also the Asian Championship gold medallist and the only male wrestler from the country to qualify for the Olympics, was amazingly agile as he kept his defence intact while regularly overpowering his 29-year-old former European champion.

Egorov, representing Macedonia, seemed to be in a bit of bother after the first round, requiring medical attention on his knee following Aman's all-out attack.

The Macedonian could not stage a comeback with the Indian effecting a takedown to earn two more points and go 10-0 up with more than two minutes remaining on the clock.

What is technical superiority?

In wrestling, the term "technical superiority," also known as a "technical fall," refers to a victory achieved by dominating an opponent with a specified point lead, after which the match is ended. This is wrestling's version of the mercy rule.

For instance, if a wrestler builds a lead of 10 points over their opponent at any time during the bout, they are awarded the win by technical superiority.

Another example, if one wrestler scores 12 points while their opponent scores just 2, the match ends with the former winning the bout based on technical superiority.

At the Tokyo Games 2020, Indian wrestler Ravi Dahiya, who went on to claim a silver medal, showed his prowess by using technical superiority in several of his bouts.
