Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh Pair Wins 10m Pistol Team Bronze To Hand India 2nd Paris Olympics Medal

Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh handed Team India their second medal at the Paris Olympics when the duo won the bronze medal match of the 10m air pistol mixed team event against South Korea on Monday. (Highlights | Olympics Full Coverage | More Sports Stories)

Bhaker and Sarabjot dominated the match and eventually wrapped up proceddings defeating the South Korean duo of Lee Wonoho and Oh Yeh Jin 16-10 to clinch bronze.

Bhaker was the most impressive of the four shooters in the fray in the bronze medal match. The Haryana shooter consistently shot in the 10-point zone to keep India ahead in the match. Only three shots of the 22-year-old hit outside the 10-point zone, the least from the four shooters in the match.

Sarabjot, who had missed qualification in the final of the men's 10m pistol event earlier in the ongoing Games, played second fiddle to Bhaker early in the match. However, as the match progressed, Sarabjot upped his game and only one of his last six shots earned him less than 10.

It was Bhaker's second medal at the ongoing Olympics and made the 22-year-old from Haryana the first Indian athlete to win two medals at a single Summer Games edition since independence. She also becomes only the third Indian to have multiple individual Olympic medals joining the likes of badminton star PV Sindhu and wrestler Sushil Kumar.

The Haryana shooter had claimed a bronze in the women's event of the 10m pistol shooting on Sunday, helping Team India open account at the Paris Games. Bhaker has a chance to add one more piece of history to her name as she will compete at the 25m pistol event in Paris later this week.

"I'm feeling really proud and there is a lot of gratitude, thanks for all the blessings" said Bhaker after the match.

"I'm feeling good, the game was very tough and there was a lot of pressure, I am very happy," said the 22-year-old Sarabjot, who comes from a farming family from Punjab's Ambala.
