The fourth-place finish for Chanu adds to India's growing list of near-misses at the Paris Olympics. The curse of the fourth place seems to be haunting the Indian contingent, with athletes consistently falling just short of the podium.

The 29-year-old Indian weightlifting sensation, who clinched silver at the Tokyo Olympics, managed a total lift of 199kg (88kg+111kg) at the South Paris Arena. Despite her valiant effort, Chanu was unable to secure a podium finish.

It was 3kgs less than what she lifted at the Tokyo Olympics (202 kg) for a silver medal.

China's Hou Zhihui successfully defended her title with an impressive total of 206kg (89kg+117kg) and also set an Olympic Record, while Romania's Mihaela Cambei claimed the silver with a total of 205kg (93kg+112kg).

While Surodchana Khambao bagged the bronze for her effort of 200kg (88kg+112kg).
