When India take on Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 on September 2, all eyes will be on Kohli again as the star batter prepares to take on the pace battery of Pakistan. Since India and Pakistan meet only in multi-nation events over the last 11 years, the stakes will be high between these two countries.
During the recent Asia Cup squad announcement, newly-appointed chief selector Ajit Agarkar made a savage claim that Kohli's prescence will be enough for the likes of Shaheen Afridi and rest at the Asia Cup 2023. But it seems like all-rounder Shadab Khan wasn't too pleased with the claim.
At the press conference in New Delhi, one of the journalist asked Agarkar about India's clash against Pakistan in Pallekele and questioned about India's plan for the likes of Afridi and Rauf. Agarkar smiled and replied that, "Kohli will take care of them".
On Saturday, after Pakistan's 59-run win over Afghanistan in the third ODI at Colombo, Shadab hit back at Agarkar's claims and said that words aren't enough and the truth will be revealed on the match itself.
"It depends on a particular day, probably. Now, someone from India or me can make any claim, but those are just words. Anybody can say anything and that doesn't change or affect anything. When we will have the match, then we might see what goes on," he said.
The Asia Cup 2023 starts on August 30 with Pakistan taking on Nepal in the first match at Multan. India's clash against their arch-rivals Pakistan will take place on September 2 in Pallekele.
