Pakistan scripted history by becoming the first team in recording a highest successful run-chase in the history of the World Cup with their six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the World Cup 2023 fixture. Opting to bat first, Kusal Mendis (122) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (108) scored centuries as Sri Lanka posted a huge total of 344/9. Mendis clobbered 14 fours and six sixes to make 122 off 77 balls and was involved in two century partnerships. He added 102 runs with Pathum Nissanka (51) for the second wicket and 111 with Samarawickrama for the third. In reply, Pakistan lost two early wickets but Abdullah Shafique (113) and Mohammad Rizwan (131*) motored along to take the Men In Green towards the huge score. Rizwan hit the winning runs as Pakistan registered their second consecutive win following up from their win over the Netherlands whereas Sri Lanka will still ponder as to how did they lose despite the early pressure.Get PAK vs SL highlights here.
