According to some reports doing the rounds, Jasprit Bumrah could make a Team India return in the T20Is during the series in Ireland.
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is one of the key components for Team India and is away from the team at the moment due to fitness and injury concerns. Despite the Men in Blue boasting the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami, Bumrah's unavailability has been dearly missed by Rohit Sharma and team. (More Cricket News)
The pacer has missed the likes of Asia Cup 2022, T20 World Cup 2022 and the Australia series this year.
However, Bumrah has been working on his fitness and rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Bumrah has been out of action for almost a year now, due to a troubled back for which he underwent a surgery as well.
Despite the pacer working on his fitness, there have been murmurs going around that Bumrah could be on the flight to Ireland for the 3-match T20I series which will be played in August. However, there has been no official word from the BCCI yet.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has provided a 'fresh update' on Bumrah's potential return. The skipper has hoped that Bumrah does get enough matches under his belt to get into the match fitness mode especially with the 2023 ODI World Cup around the corner.
"The amount of experience he (Bumrah) brings is very important. Right now he's coming from a serious injury and I've no idea if he'll travel to Ireland because the team hasn't been announced yet.
“If he gets to play then it's good and we hope he plays before the World Cup. When a player returns from a serious injury, match fitness, match feeling are some key components, which are missing,” said Rohit at the press conference ahead of the 1st ODI.
Rohit also delivered a major update on Bumrah's recovery, stating that the team management is in touch with the NCA and that Bumrah's return could be a possibility.
“We'll see what has been planned and everything depends on his recovery. We are in constant touch with the NCA and things look positive at the moment,” added Rohit.
It all started downhill last year for Bumrah who aggravated his injury before the Asia Cup that forced him out of the tournament. He did mark his return in the South Africa series but pulled out midway.
