Manchester United have lined up Zinedine Zidane and Ruben Amorim to replace the out-of-favour Erik ten Hag, who has overseen the club's worst start in decades and is facing a player revolt.
With his future growing uncertain by the week, Manchester United are considering replacing men's first team manager Erik ten Hag with Zinedine Zidane or Ruben Amorim - reports the Times. Ten Hag, who joined Manchester United from AFC Ajax in the summer of 2022, has overseen the club's worst start to a season in over six decades, losing five of their ten Premier League games and five of their first ten home games across all competitions at the time of writing. Manchester United, however, have dismissed the reports linking the out-of-job Zidane and Sporting Club manager Amorim to the role Ten Hag currently occupies, claiming them to be "categorically false".
Yet, the Dutchman's tenure remains the focus of much scrutiny from within and outside the club. According to the Telegraph, Ten Hag is currently facing a player revolt behind the scenes, with several individuals questioning his handling of Jadon Sancho and Harry Maguire. Sancho, 23, has been banished from the first team by the former Ajax manager after a public spat, while Maguire, 30, has only recently returned to the first eleven after spending much of last season on the peripheries.
Ten Hag, though, believes he can turn things around and said as much after Manchester United's 3-0 defeat at home against Newcastle United in the EFL Cup 2023-24 Round of 16.
"I understand it when the results are not there it is also a logical process that they are questioning that. But I am confident I can do it. At all my clubs I have done it and also last year here I did it as well, but at this moment we are in a bad place. I take responsibility for it," he said.
"I see it as a challenge. I am a fighter and I am in that fight and I have to make sure that I share the responsibility with my players and that we stick together and fight together, and get better results."
Manchester United return to action in the Premier League on Saturday, November 4, 2023, against Fulham, away from home.
