India beat Kuwait 5-4 in penalties after the match had ended 1-1 in regular time, to clinch the Blue Tigers' ninth SAFF Championship title. For Kuwait, Alkhaldi opened the scoring but India struck back through Lallianzuala Chhangte found the all-important equaliser. India and Kuwait struggled in extra-time as the match headed towards a shootout. India's Udanta Singh missed one penalty for India while Abdullah hit the post for Kuwait. As nervousness and excitement grew inside the stadium, it was Indian goalie Gurpreet Singh Sandhu who saved the penalty from Hajiah to clinch the win.
