Both sides entered the match on the back of wins in their respective opening encounters. England opened their campaign with a clinical win. After dismissing Scotland for 174, they chased down the target in 26.2 overs for a seven-wicket win with skipper hitting McKinney a Player of the Match-winning 88 off 68.

Spinners Farhan Ahmed and Luc Benkenstein returned with impressive figures of 3/22 and 3/41 from their respective 10 overs spells. A win against a power-packed Proteas side will give the 1998 champions the early bragging rights.

South Africa, meanwhile, survived a Jewel Andrew onslaught in their tournament opener to escape with a 31-run win against the West Indies. After posting 285/9, South Africa rocked the Windies top order, reducing the 2016 champions to 73/5 inside 10 overs. But Andrew hit a sensational century, 130 off 96, to help the Windies fight back. Then Kwena Maphaka, the eventual Player of the Match, cleaned up the Windies' tail.
