India women started their tour Down Under with a humiliating nine-wicket defeat in the first ODI as Australia extend their world record, winning streak on Tuesday. Aussie captain Meg Lanning won the toss and put India in to bat first at Harrup Park, Mackay. After a cautious yet confident start from openers Shafali Verma (8) and Smriti Mandhana (16), India lost the top three to Darcie Brown. Yastika Bhatia (35) and skipper Mithali Raj (63) were in a good stand but Brown removed debutant Bhatia in the 27th over. Richa Ghosh (32) and Jhulan Goswami (20) played little cameos to help India post 225/8. But as it turned out, it was not enough. Rachael Haynes (93 not out) and Alyssa Healy (77) stitched an opening stand of 126 in 21.2 overs. Then, Lanning hit an unbeaten 53 as Southern Stars reached the target (227/1) with 54 balls to spare. Poonam Yadav was the lone wicket-taker for India. The second ODI is scheduled for Friday (September 24). Catch highlights of AUS-W vs IND-W, 1st ODI here:
