Sunil Chhetri twin strikes in the 79th and 90+2 minutes of the game helped India defeat Bangladesh 2-0 in the joint 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifying match in Doha on Monday. Bangladesh did well to keep higher ranked India at bay who dominated the ball possession and match. Chhetri's double strikes meant India secured their first win in the campaign ending their winless streak. The win is also their first victory in World Cup qualifiers away from home in 20 years. India pressed hard to find the opening with Chinglensana coming close. Chhetri himself missed two chances before making amends. Chhetri's 73rd goal in international football gave India much needed boost as it tries to finish third to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup. India next face Afghanistan.
