After two clueless outings, Sri Lanka produced probably their best performance in a long time to beat Bangladesh by 97 runs in the third and final ODI cricket match on Friday at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. The visitors have suffered their maiden series defeat against Bangladesh after losing the first two matches at the same venue by 33 runs and 103 runs respectively. But today, it's a different story. Finally, Kusal Perera, who was installed as the captain just before the team's departure, won the toss and opted to bat first. And he led from the from, scoring a classy 120 off 122 balls. Dhananjaya de Silva complemented with an unbeaten 55 off 70 as they post 286/6. For the Tigers, Taskin Ahmed claimed four wickets for 46 from his nine overs. Shoriful Islam was the other bowler to get a wicket (1/56 in eight overs). The defence off to a brilliant start with Dushmantha Chameera taking quick wickets. The left-arm pacer ended up producing his career-best figures of 5/16 in nine overs, which also included a maiden over. Wanindu Hasaranga and Ramesh Mendis got a brace each, while Binura Fernando claimed a wicket. Mushfiqur Rahim, who won the man of the match awards in the previous matches, could manage only 28 as Bangladesh failed to mount a serious challenge. But Mosaddek Hossain (51 off 72) and Mahmudullah (53 off 63) hit fifties to give some respect to the Bangladesh scorecard, which read 189 all out in 42.34 overs. With the won, Sri Lanka have finally opened their ICC ODI World Cup Super League with positive points. Bangladesh remain top of the table. Check full table HERE.
