A determined Punjab Kings ended their losing run with a convincing 9-wicket win over defending champions Mumbai Indians in the 17th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Friday. Punjab captain KL Rahul won the toss and elected bowl first at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. They restricted Rohit Sharma's five-time champions to a paltry total of 131/6 with Ravi Bishnoi and Mohammed Shami taking two wickets each. Rohit top-scored for his team with a 52-ball 63. Punjab got off to a confident start with openers Rahul and Mayank Agarwal posting 53 runs for the first wicket. Chris Gayle then joined skipper Rahul in the centre, and the duo stitched an unbeaten 79-run stand to see the team home with 14 balls to spare. This was Punjab's second win of the season in five matches. They started with a four-win over Rajasthan Royals, but suffered defeats at the hands of Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. And for Mumbai, this was their third defeat, after going down to Royal Challengers Bangalore and Capitals. They have defeated Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
