India At Tokyo Paralympics 2020: Avani Lekhara, Praveen Kumar, Harvinder Singh Increase India's Medal Haul - Highlights

India clinched three medals on Friday after drawing blanks on the last two days. Early in the morning, Avani Lekhara claimed the bronze medal in the Women’s 50m air rifle 3 positions SH1. It was followed by the silver, with Praveen Kumar finishing second in the Men’s High Jump T64 event. Later in the afternoon, recurve archer Harvinder Singh bagged the bronze in the men’s individual open category. For the record, Avani, who earlier won the gold in the 10m air rifle SH1 event, became the first Indian woman to win multiple medals from a Paralympic Games, and the first Indian to win multiple medals in a single edition of the Olympics/Paralympics. 6:33 PM IST: Women's Club Throw - F51, Final

Kanish Lakra (11.90m) and Ekta Bhyan (8.38) finished 6th and 8th in the final. Both managed their respective season-best throws but not enough to fight for medals. And with that India's day also gets over.

Harvinder Sing loses to Mather Kevin of the United States, 6-4. He is still in contention for the bronze medal. He shot a perfect 10 in the shoot out, as against 8 of the Korean.

5:09 PM IST: Here's badminton recap

Pramod Bhagat and his partner Palak Kohli qualified for the mixed doubles semifinals, while three singles players, including Noida District Magistrate Suhas Yathiraj, also made the last-four stage. Bhagat, who had qualified for the men's singles SL3 event on Thursday, and Kohli beat Thailand's Siripong and Nipada Saensupa 21-15 21-19 in a 29-minute clash to finish second in group B. The Indian duo will clash with Indonesian pair of Hary Susanto and Leani Ratri in the semifinals on Saturday. In men's singles, Suhas, Tarun Dhillon and Manoj Sarkar also made it to the semifinals on a fruitful day for India.

Badminton: Men's Singles SL4, Group Play Stage, Group A: Suhas L Yathiraj Beat Susanto Hary of Indonesia 2-0 (21-6, 21-12)

China’s four-time Paralympic gold medallist Cuiping Zhang would be the player to beat in the women's 50m rifle 3P category. Zhang, who already has the silver in the R2 - women's 10m air rifle standing from Tokyo, would be eager to take the gold this time, making it three in a row after her titles in the R8 category in London 2012 and Rio 2016.

Cuiping, however, should be ready to tackle strong challenges from a star-studded line-up that includes India's Avani Lekhara, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic gold medallist in R2; seasoned stars like Germany's Natascha Hiltrop, the Paralympic champion in R3 in Tokyo with a Games record; and Slovakia's Veronika Vadovicova, the three-time Paralympic and five-time world champion.

The badminton competition continues with several Indian players in action on Friday. IAS officer Suhas L Yathiraj, who made a winning start on Thursday, will play two group matches on Friday. Manoj Sarkar, Krishna Nagar and Tarun Dhillon (men's singles), Pramod Bhagat and Palak Kohli will compete in mixed badminton.
