England crushed South Africa by 104 runs in the opening game of the 2019 Cricket World Cup at The Oval. After being asked to bat, the hosts rode on half-centuries from Ben Stokes (89), Eoin Morgan (57), Jason Roy (54) and Joe Root (51) to post 311/8. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi took three wickets. In reply, Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen hit half-centuries but didn't get support for the other end and as a result, the Proteas were bowled out for 207 in 39.5 overs. For England, Jofra Archer took three wickets while Liam Plunkett and Stokes took two each.
