After hearing representation from SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket), the ICC Board decided that Sri Lanka can continue to compete internationally both in bilateral cricket and ICC events after being suspended recently for breaching its obligations as a Member in particular the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and without government interference.
The suspension was imposed due to SLC's breach of obligations as a Member, notably failing to manage its affairs autonomously and succumbing to government interference. However, the ICC's verdict now paves the way for Sri Lanka's return to the international cricket arena.

Despite this reinstatement, there's a significant caveat. The ICC Board has asserted control over funding to SLC, signalling a more stringent oversight to ensure compliance with regulations and autonomy in managing cricket affairs.
In another consequential decision, Sri Lanka has lost the privilege of hosting the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2024. The hosting rights have been transferred to South Africa, marking a shift in the tournament's location.
The developments underline the ICC's commitment to upholding the integrity of the sport, emphasising the need for member nations to adhere to the principles of autonomy and independence in their cricket administration.
