Rani Rampal (Hockey): Born in Shahabad Markanda, Haryana, Rampal grew up in a poverty-stricken and underprivileged family that struggled to provide two square meals a day. To meet her nutritional requirements, she had to drink milk diluted with water. Rani's father, a cart-puller, was unable to support her dream of pursuing hockey as a career. Undeterred, Rani started practicing with a broken hockey stick and trained in a salwar kameez instead of a track suit. Despite facing resistance from her family, who believed that girls should focus on household work, Rani's persistence paid off. She convinced her family to let her pursue her passion, promising to accept any consequences if she failed. Rani succeeded in her mission, and is now an Olympian, ex-India captain and the winner of prestigious accolades such as the Padma Shri, Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award and Arjuna Award.
