AC Milan faced RB Salzburg in the final game of the Group E on the sixth matchday of the UEFA Champions League. Milan were at 7 points in five games and Salzburg were at 6 points in five games. The winner of this tie would advance to the knockout phases, joining Chelsea who had already ensured a berth in the Round of 16. Milan did not disappoint and put in a rampaging performance against the Austrian side, scoring four past keeper Phillip Kohn. Olivier Giroud opened the scoring from a corner, heading in through a Sandro Tonali cross. AC Milan doubled their lead just after half time. This time Giroud turned provider, assisting Rade Krunic. Just 10 minutes after the second goal, Giroud was back on target in the 57th minute, smashing a loose ball in the back of the net to seal the victory. Winger Junior Messias inflicted more damage on Salzburg in the injury time, scoring the fourth goal through Giroud’s forward pass, making it 4-0 for the hosts and sealing the second spot in Group E. The French striker Giroud was unarguably the best performer, involved in all four goals of the night.
