The Indian junior women's hockey team defeated hosts Belgium 4-2 in shootout here after both the sides were locked at 2-2 at the end of regulation time. Kanika Siwach scored a brace to lead India's efforts in front of the goal. The Indians were quick to find their form and assert themselves in the first quarter.

India was awarded the silver and bronze in men's javelin throw F46 event after winning protest against second-place finisher Dinesh Priyantha Herath of Sri Lanka at World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe Japan.

Rajasthan Royals' Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara has admitted that fatigue played a big part in their poor run at the back end of the ongoing IPL, which possibly derailed their campaign.

"I think it was a great season for us. We started well, and then we lost a close game to SRH in Hyderabad and (in) Delhi also, we put ourselves in winning positions," he said during the post-match media interaction after their 36-run loss to SRH.

"Sometimes you have streaks. RCB lost almost every game at the start and then caught up. That's how T20 goes. All we can do is put ourselves in positions of playoffs and vying for finals, which we did.

Assam's teenage weightlifter Bedabrat Bharali won the gold medal in the men's 73kg at the IWF World Youth Championships in Lima, Peru. The 17-year-old Bharali finished 12kg clear of his competitors with a total lift of 296kg (136 in snatch and 160 in clean and jerk).

B Ongbamrungphan is leading 18-12 in the first set and looks set to give PV Sindhu something to think about in the second one.

Simran shaved off around one-fifth of a second from her earlier personal best of 25.16 seconds to win the gold.
