A lotus is being printed on new passports as part of enhanced security features. The foreign ministry clarified it “is our national flower” and that other national symbols will also be used on rotation. The lotus is the BJP’s poll symbol.
Lt Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane is set to become the next chief of the 1.3 million-strong Indian Army. He is currently the army’s vice chief. Before that he was heading the Eastern Command, which has the Chinese border on its watch.
