As goes the annual tradition, former President Barack Obama is back with his list of favourite movies as 2023. The list includes major tentpole releases, movies from all over the world, and movies from his own production house.
Obama took to social media on Thursday and acknowledged the impact of the strikes that significantly affected Hollywood. He wrote, "Earlier this year, writers and actors went on strike to advocate for better working conditions and protections. It led to important changes that will transform the industry for the better."
“Here are some films that reflect their hard work over the last year — including some like 'Rustin,' 'American Symphony,' and 'Leave the World Behind' that we were proud to release through @HGMedia," he continued. He admits to being “biased” and stating that they were “three of the best films” he watched this year, all produced by Higher Ground Productions, that he co-owns with wife Michelle Obama.
The other films in the list are: Alexander Payne's 'The Holdovers,' Matt Johnson's 'BlackBerry,' Cord Jefferson's 'American Fiction,' Justine Triet's 'Anatomy of a Fall,' Hirokazu Kore-eda's 'Monster,' Celine Song's 'Past Lives,' Ben Affleck's 'Air,' Nida Manzoor's 'Polite Society,' and AV Rockwell's 'A Thousand and One.'
Later, he added that he only just watched Blitz Bazawule's 'The Color Purple,' and will be adding it to his list as well.
And finally, which one did the former US President choose amidst the Barbenheimer debate? He picked sides with the period drama 'Oppenheimer,' directed by Christopher Nolan, with there being no signs of Greta Grewig's 'Barbie.'
After the list was shared, fans of 'Barbie' took to social media to express their feelings. A user commented, "'Barbie' missed the cut :(" Another wrote, "Not a Barbie girl in a Barbie world I see."
