The Ranbir Kapoor-starrer ‘Animal’, which is helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, was certainly one of the most awaited films of this year. And now it has managed to deliver what it promised. The film, despite getting mixed reviews with many calling it misogynistic like the filmmaker’s previous film ‘Kabir Singh’, has managed to rake in moolah at the box office on the first day itself at the box office.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film has minted Rs 61 crore nett (early estimates) in India. According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the film’s global gross collection on its opening day is around Rs 110-115 crore. Bala also tweeted that the film had managed to make $2.5 million in North America on opening day.
Coming to the Delhi NCR region, the film had 1318 shows and ‘Animal’ witnessed an occupancy of over 79%. In Mumbai, it had 1040 shows and the occupancy rate was over 55%. In Telugu, the film had a limited 316 shows in Hyderabad and the occupancy was over 82%. In Chennai, the Tamil version of the film, had 88 shows and witnessed an occupancy of only 30%.
Meanwhile, in 2023, it was Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Jawan’, which proved to be the biggest opener so far and made Rs 75 crore across India on its opening day. While the second spot was held by ‘Pathaan’, which made Rs 57 crore on its first day but clearly, ‘Animal’ has taken up that second spot and surpassed the opening collection of ‘Pathaan’ at the box office. Coming to other films with ‘Tiger 3’ is next in line and it collected Rs 44.50 crore on its first day.
Coming to ‘Animal’, the film was released alongside Vicky Kaushal-starrer ‘Sam Bahadur’. The Meghna Gulzar-directorial managed to get Rs 5.5 crore nett in India. It looks like that ‘Animal’ will overpower ‘Sam Bahadur’ at the box office, but the polarised reviews towards the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer might work in favour of Vicky Kaushal’s film.
The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, Shakti Kapoor, Prem Chopra, and Suresh Oberoi, among others.
‘Animal’ is also Ranbir Kapoor’s biggest opener, a spot which was earlier held by Rajkumar Hirani film ‘Sanju’. It collected Rs 34.75 crore on the first day, and made Rs 342.53 crore in its lifetime collection.
As for Sandeep’s previous film ‘Kabir Singh’, which released in 2018, it collected around Rs 20.21 crore on its opening day and went on to collect Rs 278 crore nett during its lifetime in India.
