Director James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ was certainly one of the most awaited films by the audience this year. And ever since its release, the film has been raking in moolah at the box office.
The sci-fi epic wrapped up its first week at the Indian box office slightly lower than expected, and collected Rs 193 by its seventh day. Albeit, it was expected to make atleast Rs 200 crore in week one of release, as reported by PinkVilla.
Nonetheless, the film, which was released in previews on Thursday followed by a wide release on Friday, has now turned out to be the second-biggest Hollywood opener in India ever, only after ‘Avengers: Endgame’, with Rs 41 crore on its first day. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ had made Rs 53 crore on day one at the Indian box office, and finished its domestic run with Rs 373 crore.
To say the least, the film has already outperformed several big Bollywood releases of the year, including ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’. The numbers for ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ are yet again expected to pick up over the weekend, and might surpass the lifetime totals of ‘Drishyam 2’, ‘Brahmastra’, and ‘The Kashmir Files’.
Globally, ‘The Way of Water’ has already minted more than $600 million at the box office in seven days of its release.
The first ‘Avatar’ film, released in 2009, ended up being the biggest film in history, with $2.9 billion in global earning. Coming to its sequel, the film, budgeted at approximately $400 million, is also the most expensive films ever made.
