It would not be wrong to say that both the audience and the critics were looking forward to Ranveer Singh-headlined ‘Cirkus’ to rejuvenate the magic of cinema. But to everyone’s dismay, the Rohit Shetty directorial failed to impress everyone.
The film earned Rs 6.25 crore and Rs. 6.40 crore on Friday and Saturday, respectively. On the occasion of Christmas on Sunday, the film collected only Rs 7.40 crore on day 3.
As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, the film witnessed a marginal growth of about 15 per cent on Sunday, despite the fans looking forward to the collaboration between Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh. While audiences in Mumbai and Gujarat liked the film, there was no growth in these regions too on the Christmas holiday.
On the other hand, James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ has been raking in moolah, and giving stiff competition to ‘Cirkus’.
The film is reportedly inspired by Kishore Kumar's 'Do Dooni Chaar' and Sanjeev Kumar's 'Angoor' and a few other forgettable adaptations. It featured Ranveer Singh playing two sets of identical twins who are accidentally separated at birth.
Apart from Ranveer, Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandes, and Varun Sharma, ‘Cirkus’ also boasted of an ensemble cast, which is comprised of veterans Tiku Talsania, Vrajesh Hirje, Mukesh Tiwary, Brijender Kala, Sanjay Mishra and Johny Lever, but none of them could save the film.
