'Doctor Who' Actor, Richard Franklin, Passes Away At 87 After Fighting Long Term Illness

Richard Franklin who was known for his roles in ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘Doctor Who’ has died at the age of 87. The British actor died on December 25 after battling a long-term illness.

Richard Franklin’s family shared a statement with the media after his death. They mentioned how they were saddened by the loss and how his legacy will be remembered by the audience forever. A spokesperson of the family said that Richard passed away in his sleep. They said, “Richard sadly died in his sleep after fighting long term illness. We are deeply saddened by his loss, we will fondly remember him for his generosity, creative spirit, and fantastic storytelling.”

The family also talked about his contribution to television and films. They said, “He is also well remembered outside the family for his long-running career in TV and Theatre where he delighted audiences of all ages. This gave him great joy and we know his legacy will last.”

The X (formerly, Twitter) handle of ‘Doctor Who’ shared a picture of Richard Franklin and wrote, “We're sad to report the passing of Richard Franklin, who appeared in multiple adventures with the Third Doctor as Captain Mike Yates.”

The details of the funeral arrangement have not been made public as of now.

Richard Franklin made his debut in 1966 when he starred in an episode of ‘Dixon of Dock Green.’ In ‘Doctor Who’, the actor starred in over 40 episodes from 1971-1974 and 1983. He was last seen in ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ which released in 2016.
