The most-awaited movie of the year, 'Dunki' hit the screens on December 21. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer created a lot of buzz before its release and the first show in India was at Mumbai's iconic Gaeity Galaxy at 5:55 am. 'Dunki' was released worldwide amidst huge fanfare, especially in India there was a huge celebration as fans danced to dhol beats and burst firecrackers on the day of the film's release. 'Dunki's Day 1 box office collection is out. It opened with good numbers in the domestic market.

As per a report in Sacnilk, 'Dunki' made a collection of Rs 30 crore nett at the domestic market. It is less than Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' and 'Pathaan' that released this year.

'Dunki' witnessed an overall occupancy of 29.94%. Mumbai had 1081 shows which saw an occupancy of around 29.75% and the NCR region had 1412 shows with approximately 31% occupancy.

However, 'Dunki' is this year's seventh-biggest opener after 'Jawan', 'Animal', 'Pathaan', 'Tiger 3', 'Gadar 2' and 'Adipurush'. SRK failed to break his records with the film as 'Pathaan' made Rs 57 crore on day one, and 'Jawan' Rs 89.5 crore.

On Friday, today, Prabhas' 'Salaar' hit the screens and 'Dunki' will face tough competition with Prashanth Neel’s film. 'Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire' is expected to earn Rs 60 crore on opening day.

It is to be noted that, in 2018 SRK's 'Zero' released with Yash's 'KGF' which was a pan-India film. The latter broke several records at the box office while the former was a damp squib.
