Superstar Rajinikanth starrer 'Jailer' released in theatres amidst fanfare on August 10. Fans of Rajinikanth went crazy as they saw their star onscreen after a gap of two years. There was a huge celebration everywhere. Even, a Japanese couple had come to Chennai for the first-day-first-show of the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial. As per reports, Rajinikanth-starrer has become the biggest Tamil opener of the year.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Jailer' has grossed Rs 52 crore in India on its opening day and the nett collections stand at Rs 44.5 crore. It is also the biggest Tamil opener of the year. Prior to 'Jailer', Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' held the title which grossed Rs 32 crore in India on day one.
Of the film’s Rs 52 crore, in Tamil Nadu, it minted Rs 23 crore, in Karnataka Rs 11 crore, and in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana the flick raked in Rs 10 crore. Kerala brought in Rs 5 crore. 'Jailer' had 78.62% occupancy throughout the day.
As per trade analyst Ramesh Bala, 'Jailer' has done well overseas as well as it has earned over $1.45 million in the US, which is more than Vijay’s 'Varisu', which raked in $1.14 million during its entire run in the US market.
'Jailer' also stars Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vinayakan and Yogi Babu in pivotal roles. It has released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi across the world.
It is said that the film might face some competition from Chiranjeevi-starrer 'Bhola Shankar' that is releasing on Friday.
