Dulquer Salmaan starrer 'King Of Kotha' hit the theatres on Thursday, August 24. It got a lukewarm response on its opening day. As per the industry tracker, Sacnilk, the film opened with a single digit. It earned Rs 7.7 crore at the box office on Day 1.
It was released across multiple theatres in India in multiple languages. In Kerala, it had an occupancy of 53.65% with Kochi witnessing the highest occupancy rate at 67%. Given that it's a pan-India film, the response is not up to the mark.
Directed by Abhilash Joshiy, 'King of Kotha' takes the audience to a world that has larger-than-life battles, personal struggles and the unwavering pursuit of power. Dulquer is seen in a never-seen-before avatar as a gangster. The film also stars Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Prasanna, and Gokul Suresh in pivotal roles.
Earlier, Dulquer has hinted at a sequel of the film. He said at an event in Kochi, “If you (audiences) end up cherishing the film to that extent and embrace it wholeheartedly, we will certainly contemplate a sequel.”
In 2022, Dulquer had multiple releases. His Telugu film 'Sita Ramam', also starring Mrunal Thakur was a massive hit at the box office. Like other South films, it became a pan-Indian success. It made Rs 77.28 crore gross in India. Later, he was seen in the psychological crime thriller 'Chup: Revenge of the Artist' by R Balki but it didn't do well at the box office. A few days back, 'Guns & Gulaabs', a series released on Netflix where he was seen in a different role. It has got a positive response.
