Ajay Devgn's upcoming film 'Maidaan', helmed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, is certainly one of the most awaited projects in Bollywood. And now adding up to the excitement, the teaser of the film, which is one minute and 30 seconds long, is finally out and showcases the story of a fight against the odds with a period sports drama route.
While the teaser doesn’t reveal too many plot details, it begins with monochrome shots from the 1952 Summer Olympics held in Helsinki, Finland. It narrates the story of India's best-ever performance as the nation takes on Yugoslavia in a nearly flooded pitch, with the players barefoot.
We then see shots of Ajay’s character waiting in the tunnel, and how he then shifts to the ground with tears in his eyes. Ajay plays Syed Abdul Rahim, the legendary football coach, who as per the film’s synopsis was “an unknown hero who created history and records for India such that even 60 years later, we are not able to match up to those accomplishments in the most played sport in the world, football.” It cannot go unnoticed why the decade from 1952 to 1962, under him, is regarded as the 'Golden Era' of Indian football.
Check out the teaser here, which ends with Ajay’s inspirational monologue, “Aaj Maidaan mein utarna gyarah, lekin dikhna 1.”
‘Maidaan’ also stars Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh. Produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Arunava Joy Sengupta and Akash Chawla, the film's screenplay and dialogues have been written by Saiwyn Quadras and Ritesh Shah. It is set to release worldwide in theatres on June 23, 2023.
