Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' released in theatres worldwide on July 21. The movie created a lot of excitement among audiences before its release and the craze is still on. It has opened with great numbers in the Indian market and still performing well. Cillian Murphy starrer has taken the box office by storm in India. It is now inching closer to Rs 50 crore club. On Day 1, the biographical thriller opened with Rs 13-14 crore and on Day 2, the collection skyrocketed to Rs 17 crore. As per a report by industry tracker Sacnilk, the collection on Day 3, on Sunday was similar to Saturday as it earned Rs 17 crore. So, the first-weekend collection of 'Oppenheimer' stands at Rs 49 crore in India.
'Oppenheimer' is said to be the biggest opening for a Hollywood film in India in 2023. It has surpassed Tom Cruise’s 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One', that minted Rs 12.50 crore on its opening day. Nolan's film clashed with Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' and has outperformed it with a high margin. But if we see the worldwide collection, Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie starrer is faring better than 'Oppenheimer'.
As per a report in AFP, 'Oppenheimer' raked in $80.5 million in revenue in North American box offices while 'Barbie' pocketed $155 million.
'Oppenheimer' is the story of physicist J Robert Oppenheimer's work and life. The biopic on the Father of the Atomic Bomb is set during the Second World War. It also stars Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr and Florence Pugh, among others in pivotal roles.
