Known for his stand-out role in the Oscar-winning 'Parasite,' actor Lee Sun-kyun was found dead on the morning of December 27 in Seoul. Whether he took his own life or not is still unclear.
The Yonhap news agency reported that the actor was found in a vehicle in Waryong park in central Seoul. Additional evidence, like burning charcoal briquettes inside his car, indicates signs of suicide.
His wife reached out to the police authorities after she discovered what seemed to be a suicide note. She found the note after he had left from their home. The 48-year-old actor, according to police officials, left either a suicide note or a ‘will’ for his wife. The authorities said they gotten a call the previous night with a woman screaming "my husband had left the house after writing a note that resembles a will."
Not long ago, the actor had been making headlines for the wrong reasons. Sun-kyun was under police investigation over his alleged illegal consumption of marijuana along with other psychoactive drugs since October. As per his statements, he claimed that he was tricked into taking those drugs at a party.
Lee Sun-Kyun was born in 1975. He rose to international fame with his role of a rich father in 'Parasite,' the movie that bagged four awards at the 2020 Oscars. He also played lead roles in many South Korean movies including, 'Helpless', 'All About My Wife', and Apple TV's first Korean series, 'Dr. Brain', 'Coffee Prince,' and several other known projects.
Once celebrated for his wholesome public image, local news agencies reported that the actor was dropped from television/film and commercial projects due to his involvement in drug scandals. He also withdrew from several upcoming projects himself.
