The trailer of Amazon Prime Video’s new series ‘Wedding.Con’ was released today. The documentary series talks about how women were deceived and betrayed under the pretense of marriage. It includes interviews with women who were the victims of financial frauds that were committed through matrimonial websites.

The trailer of ‘Wedding.Con’ opens with a woman recounting her story. As the trailer progresses, more women come forward to share the scams and frauds they had fallen victim to after they had met someone through a matrimonial website. The true crime documentary includes the story of five women who fell for the scam because they were looking for the perfect partner. They recount how the scammers had posed as suitable grooms on popular matrimonial websites.

Take a look at the trailer here.

The documentary sheds light on an issue that has not been spoken about yet. Netflix had a similar documentary called ‘The Tinder Swindler.’ While the storyline evokes a sense of deja vu, this one is quite different. ‘Wedding.Con’ talks about how women are put under extreme pressure when it comes to marriage. It also talks about the “checklist” women have to face on these websites. It’s a known fact that marriage isn’t equal for women in the country. To hear the women talk about their story drives the point home.

Not just financial fraud, it also talks about the physical, emotional, and mental abuse these women had to undergo. It makes your heart ache for them. Some women in the trailer have a masked face to conceal their identity while some have their silhouette filling the frame. These small elements work in favour and keep you glued. You want to hear their side of the story because you know that they have been wronged.

‘Wedding.Con’ is directed by Tanuja Chandra and is created and produced by BBC Studios India Production. It is set to stream on Amazon Prime Video from December 29 onwards.
