Lately, Rakul Preet Singh has opted for roles which are bold and out of the box. One of her OTT films ‘Chhatriwali’ has gained the limelight where she discusses safe sex education. From sexual health to relationships, the movie touches upon a variety of topics that are otherwise deemed taboo in the country. Rakul unpacks the need to ruffle some feathers and discusses sex education in the open normalising the idea that it's okay to go against the grain and break stereotypes.
As steps to bring sex out of the closet are seldom taken in India, 'Chhatriwali' on Zee5 created a storm and kicked up a healthy discussion between educators and young minds!
Here's how Rakul Preet Singh gave a befitting response to the auntie brigade:
- The actress pin-points loopholes in the education curriculum across states which treat sex education as an optional subject. “Agar textbook main hai toh kuch reason se he hoga na aur agar optional bhi hai toh life main kaam ayega” signifies the importance of sex education in rural areas who label it as embarrassing and explicit.
- Rakul calls for a change in prudish attitudes of men and women in the society questioning – “Duniya main equality jab ayegi tab ayegi par hum bedroom main la sakte hai na?” She urges them to have healthy sexual conversations with partners to help counter the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
- She further exclaims – “Agar khudko hai bachana, condom hai apnana aur A-jee O-jee ko hai samjhana.” She propagates the message that killing the education bit won’t reduce the propensity towards sex, but it might end up killing safe-sex ignorant young people.
- The actress essaying the operation control head at a condom factory glorifies the unconventional job saying – “Yeh naukri sirf chemistry nahi zindagiyan bachati hai.” The comparison leaves us speechless and turns an eye-opener for the audience.
- The bold and opinionated Rakul states – “95% mard condom se aise duur bhagte hai jaise mortein se macchar.” The actress blurs lines between the terms “condom” and “chhatri” saying – “Karnal Ki Kalpana Chawla space tak pohoch gayi aur tum ek chemist store nahi ja sakte?”
Rakul Preet Singh has encouraged a whole breed of firebrand women who will refuse to succumb to societal pressures in future.
