Aeroplane House, Gurudwara For Visa: Rajkumar Hirani Reveals What Inspired Him To Make 'Dunki'

After an agonizing wait, Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Dunki’ released in theatres today. Helmed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film talks about “donkey flights” people take to illegally immigrate to the United States. In the latest video, the director revealed what inspired him to make this movie.

In a ‘Dunki’ promotional video shared by Red Chillies Entertainment on YouTube, Rajkumar Hirani revealed how he came across a house in Jalandhar that had the structure of an aeroplane perched on its roof. The director said how those families with members who successfully made it abroad would create this structure as a moment of pride. He noted how he saw this across many homes, and it was a cultural phenomenon.

Rajkumar Hirani mentioned how this sight prompted him to delve deeper and research more on it. In the same conversation, he mentioned how there is a ‘Visa Wala Gurudwara’ where people pray for a successful visa application and bring their passports along. He said how the shops outside the gurudwara sell toy aeroplanes which the people present as offerings.

The director talked about how he saw immigration posters pasted on the village walls. He added how he visited an IELTS class and attended it with a mask on. Shah Rukh Khan spoke about how Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi used these real life events and added them to the movie. The actor also shared some BTS images from the making of the film and they discussed what has gone behind in the making of the movie.
