Filmmaker Apoorv Singh and actor Manoj Bajpayee, after the success of ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’, collaborated yet again for ‘Bhaiyya Ji’. The film is Bajpayee’s 100th film, and premiered in theatres on Friday. However, it had a modest opening on its first day, and collected Rs 1.3 crore only despite being highly anticipated by Manoj Bajpayee’s fans.
Moving ahead, the film saw a rise in collections over the weekend, and minted Rs 1.90 crore on the third day of its release. As per Sacnilk, the film’s total domestic earnings now stand at Rs 5 crore. On Sunday, the film recorded an overall 12.77 percent occupancy for its Hindi shows, and the highest occupancy was during afternoon screenings. Meanwhile, the National Capital Region (NCR) had the most screenings, and saw 12 percent occupancy, while Mumbai saw 12.25 percent occupancy with 326 shows.
‘Bhaiyya Ji’ made most of its weekend and saw a 29.63 percent increase on Saturday with Rs 1.75 crore. The number went up to Rs 1.90 crore on Sunday, but the film will pass the crucial Monday test, still remains to be seen.
Coming to Bajpayee’s previous theatrical release, the actor was last seen in ‘Joram’, which got critical acclaim and won the Best Film trophy at the Filmfare Awards. Despite that, the film’s box office collection was below average. In comparison, this month, Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Srikanth’ released as well, and earned Rs 11.7 crore within three days.
As for ‘Bhaiyya Ji’, the film is one of the few Manoj Bajpayee films where the actor headlines an out-and-out mainstream action masala film. So far, it has received mixed reviews from critics.
