Streaming platform Netflix, in association with Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, has announced its upcoming crime drama titled ‘Bhakshak’. The film, which is said to be inspired by true events, is set to cut deep as it premieres on the streaming platform on February 9, 2024.
Helmed by Pulkit and produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma, the film stars Bhumi Pednekar, Sanjay Mishra, Aditya Srivastava and Sai Tamhankar in key roles. ‘Bhakshak’ is about the journey of an unwavering woman seeking justice. Bhumi will be seen as Vaishali Singh, an investigative journalist who wants to bring to light a heinous crime, and showcase the ground reality of crimes against women.
The makers also released the film’s teaser. While it doesn't reveal much, it features Bhumi in a deglamourised avatar post her last release ‘Thank You For Coming’ in 2023. The teaser showcases how there are gruesome crimes being committed against girls, and it ends with Bhumi seen telling a girl, “Bachchon ke adhikar ke liye lad rahe hain hum, samajh rahi ho? (We're fighting for girls' rights, do you get it?)"
