Comedian and actor Jo Koy for his “infectious energy and relatable humour" has been brought in to host the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. The show will be taking place on January 7 and will mark the comedian's first-time hosting a major award show.
“We are thrilled to have Jo host the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards and bring his infectious energy and relatable humour to kick off Hollywood’s award season. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for the stars in the room and a global audience,” said Helen Hoehne, Golden Globes President, in a statement on Thursday. “We know Jo is bringing his A-game.”
“I’ve stepped onto a lot of stages around the world in my career, but this one is going to be extra special. I’m so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year,” said Koy. “This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita! (I love you in Filipino)"
Executive producing showrunners Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner also added and said, “Jo’s genuine brand of comedy is sure to entertain our honorees in the room at the Beverly Hilton and viewers at home. We are excited to work with him to make this year’s show laugh-out-loud from beginning to end."
Koy is renowned as a top-tier stand-up comedian, actor, and author. His comedy draws audiences worldwide and has even sold out shows during his 'Funny Is Funny World Tour,' which broke sales records globally. With five high-rated stand-up specials on platforms like Comedy Central and Netflix, including his latest, 'Live From The Los Angeles Forum,' Koy's energy is truly infectious. Beyond stand-up, he has showcased his talent in various films such as 'Easter Sunday,' Disney’s 'Haunted Mansion,' and even lent his voice in Netflix’s 'Monkey King.' Additionally, Koy has also penned his first autobiography, 'Mixed Plate: Chronicles of an All-American Combo,' released in 2021.
The upcoming 81st Golden Globes, airing on CBS for the first time, will launch the awards season for 2024. These Awards are only second to Oscars, but just as prestigious. This year, two new categories have also been introduced: Best Stand-Up Comedian on Television and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.
Leading the nominations is Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' with nine nods, closely followed by the much-competitive Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer,' generating eight nominations.
The ceremony of the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 7, 2024, from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.
