Rashmika Mandanna’s morphed video went viral a couple of days back and it was made using the AI tool, Deepfake. Amitabh Bachchan and many other celebrities took to social media to express their disgust and horror related to the usage of Deepfake. The controversy has grown bigger ever since, and people are requesting the government to take steps in order to stop such a tool from falling into the wrong hands.
Besides Rashmika Mandanna, even Katrina Kaif’s Deepfake pic has also made its way onto social media. This is growing like wildfire, and people from all over the country and trying to fathom what’s next.
We caught up with some of your favourite celebrities and spoke to them about what they think of this AI tool, Deepfake:
Yashashri Masurkar
I’m disgusted to see this, but not shocked. I believe this is just the beginning of the dangers we will face in the future if no action is taken. Fortunately, I haven’t been a part of any such acts or witnessed one yet, but I can only imagine the horror they would bring. Anyone can be wrongly blamed for something they didn’t do, and it’s powerful enough to crush someone’s self-esteem or ruin their entire life. This is a wake-up call. While AI is making life better, it is also becoming a potential threat in the future.

The potentially dangerous effects of Deepfake have begun to emerge, with the technology having been used to commit fraud, fool people into connecting online and discredit individuals. Deepfake has a dark side, and it’s a bit scary. They can be used to create misleading or harmful content, like fake videos of political leaders declaring war or celebrities caught in compromising situations. Imagine someone replacing a porn actor’s face with your face in a very realistic way. Imagine you are a politician and someone creates your morphed video where you are saying demeaning things. Deepfake is probably one the most dangerous technologies that surfaced in recent days which uses AI to achieve this task.

Yes, I’ve heard about it. It’s not really something new. People used to cut out faces and stick them on pictures, too. Every technology has its good and bad sides, but when someone with bad intentions ruins someone’s reputation, they should be punished and sent to jail to stop others from doing the same. These apps can be useful if used correctly, but when they’re misused, we’ve all seen the bad outcomes.
Supriya Khan
Yes, I have seen and am aware of this controversy. Every technology has its pros and cons, and the problem is that people often misuse it, which can harm and destroy someone’s image. Such apps, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), can be valuable when used correctly, but when misused, they can shatter a person’s world. Of course, strict action needs to be taken against such acts. People with malicious intentions need to be punished so that others with a similar mindset receive a strong message from our judicial system.

Identity theft is a punishable crime, and you are liable for imprisonment, especially if someone’s identity has been stolen, and a person is impersonated. All parties involved need to address this issue, and it should be dealt with through strict punishment.
Monika Khanna
It’s really sad that some people make content just to get likes and comments from followers whose names they don’t even know. They’re just looking for attention. It’s frightening and unsafe, especially for girls who have nothing to do with it. I’ve seen some of this content, and platforms like Instagram should stop this nonsense. People create and watch such senseless content. Today, Rashmika is targeted, but tomorrow it could be someone else. These things can ruin a person’s life and make them really sad. What about the girls who are in school or college? They’re just regular people, and who can they tell that it’s not them in those pictures or videos? This is really wrong, and whoever is behind it should face serious consequences. This kind of entertainment should be stopped, and the police should take action.
