Fashion designer Anjali Phougat has observed significant changes in the fashion landscape over the past year. She anticipates that the upcoming year will usher in further transformative trends in the world of fashion.
“I’ve noticed a remarkable evolution in fashion throughout 2023, and as I often express, I don’t adhere to conventional trends; instead, I prioritize personal comfort. I see clothing itself as a trend—whether it’s elegantly pairing a dress with athletic shoes or effortlessly combining sneakers with a stylish ensemble. The emerging trend is about embracing what compliments your body type and exudes both fashion and comfort simultaneously. Fashion has truly progressed. Individuals are challenging runway norms, models confidently showcasing sneakers on the runway, and even daring to go barefoot. I would describe this shift in fashion as a complete 360-degree transformation,” she shares.
Reflecting on the past year, she shares, “2023 was an emotionally challenging period for me, during which I found it difficult to dedicate as much attention to my goals as I would have liked. I moved at a slower pace and prioritized my mental well-being, engaging in spiritual growth through meditation. While I only participated in a handful of shows—about five or six—in 2023, my focus shifted towards personal development rather than professional growth. As I look ahead to 2024, my plan is to maintain consistency and unwavering focus on my goals, dedicating time to my family and nurturing my mental health. I am not hesitant to discuss the importance of mental health and emphasize the significance of investing time in oneself, including physical fitness, self-respect, self-love, and steadfast dedication to one’s goals.”
Looking ahead, she expresses, “I have exciting plans for the future, particularly in March during Paris Fashion Week. Coincidentally, March 3rd holds great significance for me, as I’ll be presenting two simultaneous shows on that prestigious day. One of these shows will be in collaboration with Ohio State University, where we aim to raise funds for victims of domestic violence. Simultaneously, I’ll be showcasing in Paris, both events serving a larger purpose. Working with students and fundraising for causes like supporting victims of human trafficking is a cause close to my heart, making both shows significant. While I’ve accomplished a lot in the past, including participating in fashion weeks, I acknowledge that 2023 was a slower year for me.”
She expresses, “While the future is uncertain, I hold aspirations of establishing my own stores, including a branch in India. My dream is to elevate Indian fashion on a global scale, a journey I am already undertaking. I am committed to maintaining consistency and consistently pushing the boundaries of Indian fashion. My vision includes creating comfortable Indian couture that showcases the artistry of Indian craftsmanship, allowing everyone to appreciate it. Opening my own stores is part of this endeavour, bringing accessible and exquisite Indian fashion to a broader audience.”
