The much-awaited ‘Oppenheimer’ is all set to be released in India on Friday. The film features Cillian Murphy as the lead character of J Robert Oppenheimer. Now, in a recent interview, actor Emily Blunt, who also stars in the Christopher Nolan film, talked about Cillian Murphy's weight loss and how he ate only ‘an almond’ per day to achieve his weight loss needed for the role.
In a recent interview, Emily Blunt told Extra, “He had such a monumental undertaking. And he could only eat, like, an almond every day. He was so emaciated.”
Cillian Murphy had told The New York Times in May this year, “I love acting with my body, and Oppenheimer had a very distinct physicality and silhouette, which I wanted to get right. I had to lose quite a bit of weight, and we worked with the costume and tailoring; he was very slim, almost emaciated, and existed on martinis and cigarettes.”
While Cillian Murphy didn't blatantly copy J Robert Oppenheimer's reported diet – cigarettes and martinis – it has been hinted that the diet was quite restrictive.
Speaking about his weight loss, Cillian too had mentioned recently that he undertook unhealthy habits, pushing things too far. "You become competitive with yourself a little bit which is not healthy. I don’t advise it," he told the Guardian.
Coming to ‘Oppenheimer’, the film is helmed by Christopher Nolan, known for films such as ‘Tenet’, ‘Interstellar’, ‘Inception’ and others. The film marks the first time Nolan has made a biopic of a real person – J Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), who was the theoretical physicist. He was the force behind developing the first nuclear weapons. Emily Blunt plays his wife with a supporting cast that includes Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon and Florence Pugh.
‘Oppenheimer’ will be released on July 21, and will battle it out with Greta Gerwig's ‘Barbie’, featuring Margot Robbie in the lead role and Ryan Gosling as Ken, at the box office.
