‘Fighter’, Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone-starrer aerial action film, released in theatres on January 25, a day ahead of the Republic Day holiday. The film opened at the box office to a great response, and collected Rs 22 crore on the first day of release.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Fighter', which is helmed by Siddharth Anand, witnessed an overall 21.17 percent Hindi occupancy on Thursday. While Chennai recorded the highest occupancy for Hindi language release, it was followed by Hyderabad, Mumbai, NCR and Jaipur.
As for Hrithik Roshan, the film minted more than his last film ‘Vikram Vedha’, on its opening day. However, it couldn’t match up to his 2019 blockbuster ‘War’’s first-day box office. ‘War’, which was a part of YRF’s spy universe and also helmed by Siddharth Anand, witnessed an impressive opening of Rs 53.35 crore on day one. In the same year as War, Hrithik also featured in ‘Super 30’, which collected Rs 11 crore on its opening day, and went on to collect Rs 210 crore worldwide.
‘Fighter’ is the actor’s fifth-highest opening film. While ‘War’ stays at the top, it is followed by ‘Bang Bang!’ at Rs 27 crore, ‘Krrish 3’ at Rs 25 crore, and ‘Agneepath’ at Rs 22.8 crore.
Coming to Siddharth’s previous film, it was ‘Pathaan’ with Shah Rukh Khan, and it made Rs 57 crore on opening day. Later in the year, YRF released Salman Khan’s ‘Tiger 3’ on Diwali, and it minted Rs 53 crore on the first day.
According to Sacnilk, ‘Fighter’ has already sold tickets worth Rs 13.2 crore in advance sales for the second day (Republic Day). On the opening day itself, ‘Fighter’ sold more than 2.79 lakh tickets, which totalled to Rs 8.4 crore in India.
Now with positive reviews of the film, ‘Fighter’ is expected to perform much better on its second day, considering the Republic Day long weekend.
Apart from Hrithik and Deepika, ‘Fighter’ also stars Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Rishabh Sawhney and Akshay Oberoi among others.
