Om Raut' film 'Adipurush' is finally out for the world to see. While the film is getting mixed responses at the box office, the controversy around the film refuses to leave and the latest is the dialogues.
The Nepal release of Prabhas starrer film 'Adipurush' remains uncertain after Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah’s call on Thursday to impose a ban on all Hindi films after taking objection to a line of dialogue in the film. Mayor Shah said that the producers of Adipurush, an adaptation of the Ramayana starring Prabhas as Lord Ram, include a line of dialogue in which Sita is described as ‘daughter of India’. He wrote on social media that Sita is considered the daughter of Nepal, and said that the producers have three days to alter this line if they want the film to be released as per schedule.
Some hours later, local media reported that T-Series had complied with the demands, after which the movie was passed by Nepal’s censor board. But on Friday morning, fresh reports emerged that screenings of the film were being cancelled because they posed a threat to law and order.
“Until and unless the slogan ‘Janki is a daughter of India’ contained in the South Indian film Adipurush is not true not only in Nepal but also in India, no Hindi film will be allowed to run in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Three days have been given to correct this. Hail to Mother Sita,” Mayor Balen wrote in a tweet.
Adipurush debuted across the world on Friday. The film also stars Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh and Saif Ali Khan.
Before this, Saif Ali Khan's comment on Ravan also sparked controversy. He had mentioned 2 years ago how the movie would show the human side of Ravan. However, he had to apologize later in a statement "I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement. Lord Ram has always been the symbol of Righteousness and Heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil."
Also, when the poster with Prabhas posing as Lord Ram was shared, it was instantly questioned for plagiarism. It was Vaanar Sena Studios (an animation studio), that had first shared on social media, calling out the makers for copying their work.
More recently, when Kriti visited Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirupati, Om Raut kissed the actress goodbye, causing a lot of uproar on social media and the video going viral.
